Here are a few basic edits from my test shoot. The aim of this photoshoot was to produce some self portrait images that could be used for various experimental techniques when layering text. I recently discovered a style of portraiture called “Text Portraits”. Following this guide (http://www.photoshopessentials.com/photo-effects/text-portrait/) I experimented with creating my own text portraits. I used a sample text generator to form a large area of text to layer over the image.

I started with a standard font to help me get an idea of what this technique would produce. I then tried enlarging various words from the text to add dimension and make certain words stand out to the viewer. I tried this process in both black and white and colour but I prefer the black and white as they have more contrast and are easier to read. I also think the black and white portrays more emotion to the viewer. The final change I tried was using a handwriting style font, although this didn’t make a big difference to the overall look of the image I do think it gave it a more personal feel.
I don’t think I will be using this technique in my final images. I think the text needs to be hand-written to give it a more integrated look rather than a layer of text over an image. I am glad to have tried this new post-production process as it something I thought I would use in my final images but now I have tried it I don’t think it fits my concept.
