Colour Theory- Emotions
Colour plays a major role in the way we read art or design pieces. Certain colours evoke emotions and feelings within the brain because of our psychology.
Red
The colour red is associated with anger and passion, It links to fire, love and danger. It can portray feelings of frustration or affection depending on it's intensity.
Yellow
Yellow is the colour of sunshine it is regarded as a happy colour. It is associated with joy and happiness. It has warm tone that links with cheerfulness.
Orange
Orange is a mix of red and yellow, it has the power or red but the joy of yellow. It has a warming effect and it is said to be linked to feelings of determination.
Green
Green is the colour of nature and growth. It symbolises new things and can evoke happiness and new beginnings. .
Blue
Blue symbolises sadness this links to the expression "feeling blue". It has also been associated with wisdom and intelligence.
Purple
Purple is the combination of red and blue, it contains the strength of red and the calming effect of blue. Deeper purples can also portray negativity and sadness in a more subtle way than blue. I can also link to feelings of frustration or disgust.
White
White, although sometimes considered as a shade and not an individual colour symbolises purity and freshness. Something new, crisp and modern. It can be link to a feeling of cold and sharpness due to it being the same colour as snow.
Black
Black is linked to formality and strength. It is also associated with feelings of sadness and negativity because of it's connotations with death.
